Sanitary-ware in healthcare environments
Taking care of a patient in a healthcare facility for a temporary disability or permanent hospitalization, is complex and has big impact on both the workload of operators and patients.
The respect of hygienic requirements in the planning and realization of building interventions in healthcare facilities, is crucial both for the issuance of the related declaration of conformity and certificate of usability.
Each bathroom shall be equipped with the following fixtures:
- Toilet or toilet-bidet
- Bathtub or shower
- Washbasin
These items are usually and mostly made of porcelain, better known as "feldspathic" or hard porcelain. This is a compound in which feldspar is present, hence the name, in addition to kaolin and quartz; sometimes even clay is added. Once subjected to firing - with temperatures varying between 1000°C and 1500°C - it acquires particular features such as resistance to heat, scratches, shocks and chemical agents. For washbasins there are alternatives made of synthetic materials too.
Toilets or toilet-bidets used in healthcare facilities, usually have larger support surfaces, to offer better seating, and the floor-standing versions are taller than the standard ones on the market. The particular height makes a huge difference and is designed to make it easier for a user to get up from the sitting position, avoiding excessive pressure on the knees, thus releasing pain.
The front opening
enables carers to better assist and clean patients. It is a small feature that makes a big difference in the comfort of the patient and eases the job of care givers.
The washbasin is ergonomically shaped to welcome patients more comfortably while seating. The elbow rests at the sides, guarantee firmness of the arms and avoid their shaking for a better use of the tap and more comfortable washing.
