The importance of a grab bar

Grab bar: not everyone knows what it is until people realize they need a strong and efficient support to help them with movement and provide stability. Seemingly, a grab bar is something not particularly complex: a bar with a simple shape made with a resistant material. However this is not the case.

A good and efficient grab bar has to tick several boxes:

• First of all, it has to grant a specific load capacity: given that its goal is to support people, it has to be designed to hold a certain weight. It must be strong and solid.
  
• It needs an exceptional grip: when people hold onto it, they have to feel a sense of stability and firmness. It is then essential to choose the right materials.
  
• It has to be pleasant to the touch: a cold and uncomfortable feeling while touching isn’t the best, so it is important to consider also this aspect.
  
• The materials: a grab bar is exposed to water and humidity in a bathroom, which could easily compromise the surface, resulting in rust, discoloration and other damages. Galvanized steel with vinyl coating and stainless steel are good choices.
  
• In addition, a grab bar has to be hygienic: in this sense, choosing the right material is very important. Stainless steel or vinyl coating are easy to clean and some can be treated with specific additives which can make the bar hygienically safe.
  
• Even if it isn’t the most important feature, a grab bar is anyway an accessory too, so it has to match and integrate with the style and design of the whole bathroom.
