Ponte Giulio implements a robotic production line

Talking about "Industry 4.0", in Italy it refers to "all the operations which, by exploiting the new technologies available, aim to improve working conditions, create new business models, increase plant productivity and optimize product quality". A new way of approaching production, therefore, where automation and digitalization play a key role.

At the end of 2020 Ponte Giulio started a big modernization process of its production plant, officially entering the industrial era 4.0.

Focused on the automation of stainless steel tube processing, the planned investment included the design of a production island composed of machinery totally interconnected to each other (and connected upstream to the company management system through the implementation of an advanced ERP-type software). Through the different components, the plant is able to cover most of the processing phases of the tube, from its cutting to its finishing, passing through precision operations such as bending (necessary activity for the realization of curved bars) and the realization of holes for assembly.

The result is more efficiency in production times and volumes. This new plant does not intend to replace the more traditional manufacturing activities, but to interact with them to allow an easy development of new products, allowing the traditional plant to work on "custom" solutions, characterized by specific customization requirements.

This new line represents an opportunity to increase Ponte Giulio’s competitiveness, in terms of price and quantity, without giving up the attention to details and craftsmanship, which have always both characterized its production.
